This process begins with welding two sheets of steel together leaving room to weld a pipe into one edge. Once the piece is air tight it is placed in a gas forge. When the steel is glowing red, air is run through the pipe blowing up the steel like a baloon. The gas forge shown below was made from fire bricks, kiln shelves, and a spare gas burner. Sabrina learned this process while assistng Elizabeth Brim at The Haystack Mountain School of Crafts.
